9 projects

01 FCB Difficulty 1/5

Bundesliga · Germany

Bayern Munich

BeginnerGiant

Learn the systems with room for error

A dominant squad, a clear board expectation and enough quality to survive tactical experimentation. Ideal if you want to learn FM27’s new Tactical Effectiveness and training layers without fighting for every point.

First move

Keep the first tactic simple. Give the squad two weeks of tactical training, then add player instructions only as the understanding gauge rises.

Watch out

The board still expects the title. A slow start creates pressure even when your process is sound.

02 NUFC Difficulty 2/5

Premier League · England

Newcastle United

BeginnerProject

Build a contenders squad without starting at the very top

Strong foundations, an intense home crowd and a squad that can support an aggressive front-foot style. You get scope to recruit, but not the unrealistic safety net of an all-conquering side.

First move

Decide whether your midfield is built for control or pressing, then scout for a player who improves that specific identity rather than collecting names.

Watch out

The step from challenger to champion is the hard part. Plan for depth before the fixture congestion arrives.

03 BHA Difficulty 2/5

Premier League · England

Brighton

YouthProject

Turn smart recruitment into a top-half machine

A data-led recruitment culture, a young squad and realistic expectations make Brighton the best testbed for a development-first save. You can find value in markets the big clubs ignore.

First move

Build the shortlist around players aged 23 or under who fit your tactical complexity, then use the training schedule to accelerate their development.

Watch out

Big clubs will circle your best players. Set replacement profiles early instead of reacting in the final week of the window.

04 FCB Difficulty 3/5

La Liga · Spain

Barcelona

GiantYouth

Balance a giant’s demands with a financial reality check

You inherit elite young talent and a clear possession identity, but the board still expects a competitive team while the wage bill demands attention. A fascinating balance of development and pressure.

First move

Audit the wage structure before you sign anyone. Promote one academy player into the senior rotation and give him a defined tactical role.

Watch out

Do not stack complex instructions on a young squad just because the names are famous. Tactical Understanding still matters.

05 ATA Difficulty 3/5

Serie A · Italy

Atalanta

UnderdogYouth

A high-energy project with a smart recruitment pipeline

Atalanta’s identity is built on intensity, man-oriented defending and player development. It is a rewarding save for managers who enjoy coaching a system rather than buying the finished article.

First move

Recruit for durability as well as quality. A pressing system falls apart when the wide players cannot repeat sprints.

Watch out

Serie A opponents will punish an over-committed press. Build a reliable rest-defence structure before turning up the intensity.

06 SCP Difficulty 2/5

Primeira Liga · Portugal

Sporting CP

YouthProject

Develop, compete, sell — then do it again

A strong academy, a technically gifted first team and a league where young players can earn real minutes. Sporting is a natural home for a buy-low, develop, sell-high career.

First move

Identify two academy prospects who can cover first-team minutes immediately. Their development matters more than a short-term signing.

Watch out

Winning domestically raises expectations in Europe. Keep enough experience in the spine to survive the step up.

07 AFC Difficulty 3/5

Eredivisie · Netherlands

Ajax

RebuildYouthGiant

Restore the academy-to-first-team pathway

A famous academy and a squad that needs a clear football identity. This is the project for a manager who wants to rebuild a giant through coaching and youth rather than a blank chequebook.

First move

Set a defined style in pre-season, then make every recruitment decision answer one question: can this player execute it?

Watch out

The board and supporters expect attractive football. A pragmatic low block may steady results but will not satisfy the brief for long.

08 WRE Difficulty 3/5

EFL Championship · Wales

Wrexham

UnderdogRebuildProject

Sustain the rise beyond the headline signings

A club with momentum, a distinct story and a squad that may need rebuilding as it climbs. The challenge is to turn attention and resources into a durable football operation.

First move

Check the age profile of the spine. Add athleticism in midfield and wide areas before chasing another marquee name.

Watch out

Reputation attracts players who do not fit the system. Scout for tactical fit, not just star power.

09 SAL Difficulty 4/5

EFL League Two · England

Salford City

UnderdogRebuild

Build a lower-league identity that survives promotion

Limited resources, a competitive division and a real need for smart loans and free transfers. This save teaches the core of Football Manager: fit over reputation.

First move

Use the loan market for pace and creativity, but keep the spine permanent. Rebuild the backroom before spending on squad depth.

Watch out

A promotion can expose a squad that was built only to survive. Recruit for the next level while you are still in this one.

How to choose a save

Beyond the badge

The best FM27 save is not the club with the biggest transfer budget. It is the one whose problems you find interesting. A giant demands immediate success. A rebuild demands patience. A youth project demands a pathway. An underdog demands resourcefulness. Pick the problem you want to solve for 100 hours.

Read the board expectation first

The board’s target frames the entire season. A top-half finish at Brighton is a different job from a title at Bayern. Before you choose, look at the squad age profile, wage bill and the number of players who fit one clear style.

Check the tactical fit

You do not need a perfect squad, but you need a credible spine. A high-press save requires midfield athleticism. A possession save needs composure at the back. An underdog low block needs defenders who can concentrate and a forward who can hold the ball.

Leave room for a story

A club with no obvious problem can still be a great save if you create a project: promote the academy, change the style, win a continental trophy. The game gives you the structure; you supply the ambition.

Club FAQ

Before you commit
What is the best club to manage in FM27 for a beginner?

Bayern Munich is the gentlest starting point because the squad can support tactical experimentation and the board expectation is clear. Newcastle is a good alternative if you want a stronger challenge without starting at the very top.

What is the best FM27 club for a youth-only save?

Brighton, Sporting CP, Ajax and Barcelona all offer strong development pathways. Brighton and Sporting are especially good if you want to find value and give young players first-team minutes without the full weight of a superclub.

Which FM27 club is the hardest challenge on this list?

Salford City has the smallest margin for error in our selection, with lower-league resources and a squad that must be rebuilt for promotion. Wrexham is also demanding because expectations are rising faster than the infrastructure.

Are these the only good teams to manage in FM27?

No. The list is a set of save ideas, not a definitive ranking of every club. The best save is the one whose board expectations, squad profile and story you want to spend 100 hours with.
